Join the Philanthromarketing™ Movement Today!

We live in a constant state of consumer. Whether it is social, digital, or print communications, it is impossible to hide from impetuous marketers who want us to buy their products. Often times, we buy solely based on what these marketers think we should have, not necessarily what products make sense for us as individuals. Marketing Meet Philanthropy In order to grab attention and drive action, marketing needs personalization. It needs inspiration, individualization and impact. Philanthropy, meet marketing. At DoTopia, we think these two are a match made in heaven and have the results to prove it. Philanthromarketing™ is the […]

What is a DAF and How DoTopia is Different

A popular philanthropy trend in the last 30 years has been the growing use of Donor Advised Funds (DAFs). Gaining more visibility in the 1990’s, Donor Advised Funds continue to increase and have, most recently, become philanthropy’s fastest growing giving outlet. The National Philanthropic Trust defines a Donor Advised Fund, or DAF, as a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit and then recommend grants from the fund over time. In 2015, DAFs accounted for more than $22.6 Billion in contributions or 8.4% of total U.S. giving […]

Giving Portfolio: A New Way of Thinking

I’ll be the first to admit my knowledge in investments is limited. I tend to leave it up to the professionals. I do know is that it is important to have a well rounded investment portfolio, one that aligns with your future goals, sets you up for success and represents industries you are passionate about. As Chris Gallant put in 4 Steps to Build a Profitable Portfolio (yes, I did Google what makes a well rounded portfolio), “In today’s marketplace, a well-maintained portfolio is vital to any investor’s success. As an individual investor, you need to know how to determine […]

Engage for Good is Good for All

As many of you know, we love conferences at DoTopia. Most recently, I had the opportunity to venture to one of my favorite cities, Chicago, to represent DoTopia at the Engage for Good Conference. The purpose of Engage for Good is to work at the intersection of cause and commerce. Engage for Good provides brands and nonprofits the practical information and connections they need to succeed. A lovely and actionable goal. Originally founded as The Cause Marketing Forum in 2002, CEO David Hessekiel, does an impeccable job keeping the organization relevant by engaging leading corporations and nonprofits alike. Most recently, […]

Disrupting the Win-Win of Box Tops for Education

General Mills has long been one of the most philanthropic companies in the world.  In 1996, they were ahead of their time in developing the Box Tops for Education™ program.  The idea was simple, General Mills wanted to develop a way to support education in conjunction with their brands.   How it Works What General Mills came up with was a philanthropic coupon. This coupon, also known as a Box Top, is attached to their product’s packages in 10 cent units. Consumers cut out, collect and send to the school of their choice. The schools collect box tops, send them […]

Humans of Giving e-book Promotes Individual Cause Marketing

As humans, we share 99.9% of the same DNA with one another. Yet, we know that our biologic sameness does not account for differences in our preferences, lifestyle, socioeconomic status and overall passions. Naturally, our “giving desires” would also fall into that latter list. Though the psychological reasons we like to give as humans may be in the 99.9, the causes we care about are defined by our culture and life experiences. The Rise of Cause Marketing We all have causes we care about. Whether we support these causes through giving or volunteering, we find resources in order to advance […]

Spread the Joy of Giving

Remember your first Christmas when the “receiving” bulb dimmed and the “giving” one illuminated? We all reach a point in life where we find just as much joy, if not more, in giving gifts versus receiving. If this hasn’t happened for you yet, this blog might not be for you. Thinking back to my top holiday memories, they almost always include a very thoughtful gift I have hand picked for someone important in my life. Watching the receivers face light up as they unwrap the paper may be one of the best feelings we experience as humans.   There’s a […]

What are Your Pillars to Success with Your Employees and Customers?

In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a good conference. Call me crazy, but I am one of those weird people who actually enjoys connecting with random humans. I also fancy myself a learning-junky. An exceptional conference to me is the perfect combination between applicable and inspiring content with organic networking. Sign me up. The Loyalty Expo last week paired these two elements nicely. I returned home with new friends, a plethora of handouts and a brain full of loyalty information.  Aside from these goodies, one session in particular hit me just the right way.   Lonnie Mayne, Founder & […]

What Will Replace Checkout Charity?

The days of big box retailers raising significant funds from checkout transactions may be coming to an end.  Not only are shoppers spending more time and money online versus in-store, but the retail industry as a whole has seen a consistent decline in sales. In fact, over 50 retailers could file for bankruptcy in 2017.  With the majority of retailers facing financial instability, are Give Back programs also on the chopping block? The math is simple: fewer big box stores + low customer engagement = decrease in donations to corporate non-profit partners, right? We don’t think so. It’s on us […]

How To Create Impact in three simple steps

Making an impact on the world seems like a lovely premise, but in actuality can be a daunting idea. We have so many social issues to consider, yet so little time. Throwing in social media, the myriad of digital channels, and the 24 hour news cycle makes it impossible to stay relevant. Determining where to help and how can literally make your head spin. “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill Instead of getting overwhelmed with the vastness of world problems, our advice is simple: Find a problem in […]
